These are all on either Impulse or Steam so it sounds like we have similar gaming habits. One with simpler graphics (Galactic Civilizations 2) lasts longer than one with more complex graphics (King's Bounty, Mass Effect, etc) but constant, random crashes just keep on happening.

I'm still getting random shutdowns whenever I play any kind of game. I tried your rollback suggestion (thanks again!) and experienced the same gaming issues even with A08 re-installed. Their customer "service" has been nothing short of a joke. You're certainly a lot more helpful than anyone from Dell, that's for sure. Thanks for the tip on the BIOS the other day, Adrian.

I can't even play in medium settings, or even low settings, it doesn't matter which graphic level you choose. I bought this lap so I could play with it, and now. I will probably phone Dell support next Tuesday, because I don't want to have to buy a cooler base as I didn't need it in the past. I keep getting too much degrees in my laptop, and fan aren't working as they are supposed to, because they are too slow at the moment the lap shuts down. I've been suffering this problem since about a month ago, and I have been trying some BIOS versions (A08, A11, A13.). That will be OK if it was a problem that I had in the past, sadly, it isn't. The lappy gets very, VERY hot after 30 minutes playing, for example, Mass Effect or Metro 2033 (both of them using Steam) and then it suddenly shut downs because of an excessive CPU/GPU temperature. As I replied you yesterday, I have been able to set my BIOS to A08, but the shutdowns problem with games running has not dissappeared. I have the same problem as you, but I am afraid it is not exclusively a BIOS problem.

How do I get manual control of the installer program long enough to install the older BIOS? What other solutions are there to roll back the BIOS to a more stable and functional version? I never get the opportunity to "take over" and flash the BIOS myself. I click "OK" (the only option) on this window and the program shuts down. "The current system BIOS is the same version (or newer) than the version you are trying to flash, so the BIOS will not be changed." I have the A08 BIOS in my 'Downloads' folder, but when I try to flash it, the installer program (Winphlash64 Version 1.0.56.0) autoruns, proceeds through the system checks, and then refuses to install the older BIOS (I never get the chance to give it any instructions). This never happened with BIOS version A08. without warning the computer simply crashes and I have to power it back up again.

It's completely random as to when it happens. Unfortunately, the computer now shuts down when playing any kind of game involving decent graphics.

I followed the recommendation of the Dell PC Checkup program and updated the BIOS from A08 to A14 on my Studio 1747 laptop.
